How to convert a PDF to JPG

- Choose a resolution: 72, 150 or 300 DPI.
- Convert. Each page becomes its own image.
- Download a single JPG, or a ZIP with every page.
Which resolution to pick
- 72 DPI: small files for quick previews and thumbnails.
- 150 DPI: a good default for reading on screen, chats and slides.
- 300 DPI: print quality, and sharp when you zoom in on small text.
- Higher DPI means bigger files and more work for your device, so long PDFs at 300 DPI can be slow on a phone.
Why JPG, and when to use it
JPG files are small and open everywhere, which makes them the usual choice for sharing a page in a chat, adding it to a slide or posting it online.
JPG uses lossy compression, so fine text can show faint artefacts at low resolution. Choose 150 or 300 DPI for documents with small print, or use PDF to PNG if you want lossless images.
Many upload forms accept images but not PDFs, especially for ID documents, certificates and proof of address. Converting the page to JPG gets you past that without asking anyone to resend the file.
JPG pages are also handy for posting a flyer or menu on social media, adding one page to a presentation, sending a boarding pass to someone by chat, or using a page as a thumbnail on a website.
If you only need one page from a long file, convert the whole PDF and keep the image you need from the ZIP, or extract that page first with Split PDF.
On a phone, the ZIP of all pages lands in your downloads. iPhone and Android both open ZIP files from the Files app, or you can convert a single page to skip the ZIP and save the image straight away.
Need text rather than a picture?
Converting to images does not make the text editable. Converting PDF to Word or searchable PDF with OCR is not available yet. If you only need the words from one page, convert it to an image and run it through Screenshot to text, which reads text from images.
