Three ways to split a PDF
This PDF splitter gives you three modes. Pick the one that matches what you need to send or keep.
- Every page as its own PDF: a 20-page file becomes 20 single-page PDFs, downloaded together as a ZIP.
- Extract a page range into one PDF: type something like 1-3, 5, 8-10 and get one new file with just those pages, in that order.
- Split into chunks of N pages: for example, chunks of 10 turn a 45-page file into five PDFs, downloaded as a ZIP.
How to split a PDF into separate pages
- Add your PDF by dropping it on the tool or picking it from your device.
- Choose a mode: every page, a page range, or chunks of N pages.
- For a range, type the pages you want, such as 1-3, 5, 8-10. For chunks, set the number of pages per file.
- Press split.
- Download the new PDF, or the ZIP if the split made several files.
Private by default, with no task limit
Well-known sites like iLovePDF, Smallpdf, Sejda and Adobe Acrobat online split PDFs on their servers, which means your file is uploaded first. Their free plans also cap use: Smallpdf gives 2 tasks a day, Sejda 3 tasks an hour with a 50 MB and 200 page cap.
Here the split happens in your browser. The PDF is never sent to our servers, there is no account, no watermark, and you can split as many files as you like. The honest limit is your device: very large files need memory and can be slow on a phone.
Page ranges explained
The range box accepts single pages and runs of pages, separated by commas. 1-3 means pages 1, 2 and 3. 5 means page 5 on its own. 8-10 means pages 8, 9 and 10. Put them together as 1-3, 5, 8-10 and you get one PDF with seven pages.
Page numbers refer to the position in the file, not the number printed on the page. If a report has a cover and a contents page before page 1, the printed page 1 may be the third page of the PDF. Check the page count before you type the range.
Everything else about the pages stays the same. Splitting copies pages as they are, so text remains selectable, links keep working where the viewer supports them, and scanned images keep their quality. Nothing is re-compressed on the way through.
When to split a PDF
- Send one chapter or one invoice instead of the whole document.
- Get under an email attachment limit by splitting into chunks.
- Pull a signed page out of a long contract.
- Separate a scanned batch into one PDF per page, then rename each file.
